These photographs include portraits, events, and other official photographs for the university, taken between April 30, 2002 and October 9, 2003.

These newsletters are from academic and other offices and units at Kansas State University. Topics typically will relate to department information, personnel updates, and similar subjects.

The subject files cover numerous aspects of the university, mainly between 1960 and 2010. A few items exist from 1925 to 1960. The series of buildings include many helpful photographs, and many other files include photographs and negatives.

McPherson collection includes a multitude of documents pertaining the McPherson extension office as well as the 4-H program. Documents range from executive files such as financial records, meeting minutes, membership lists, and construction plans to documents such as photographs, slides, and program guides.

The Kansas State Agricultural College records were generated and collected by KSAC, the organization that eventually came to be known as Kansas State University. The records pertain to sales of land to establish the college, physical improvements of buildings, and details about college life at the time. They document correspondence to KSAC Presidents (including Joseph Denison, John A. Anderson, and George T. Fairchild). Significant topics covered in the material include leasing land for the Manhattan Street Railway, demands by students for German to be added to the curriculum, "college greenbacks" (a type of banknote issued for use on campus), tuberculosis tests in cattle, industrials (a nineteenth and early twentieth century form of work-study at this institution), and various financial records. Approximate years covered by the records are 1868-1902.

This accession includes media coverage, photographs, and publications of the Kansas Regents Educational Communications Center from 1988 to 2009. Media coverage includes local and national outlets, as well as press releases, and covers the activities and awards of the center. Photos include President Jon Wefald, center director Mel Chastain, and Board of Regents member Charles Hostetler at the ground breaking in 1989, as well as Senator Bob Dole and others on a tour later that year.

The Kansas Iota chapter of Phi Kappa Theta was founded in 1921 and continues to be a presence at the university. These records contain meeting minutes from 1921 to 1996, attendance records, operating statements, and general fraternity history and activity. This collection also contains petitions from other university chapters asking to be inducted into the national fraternity. Box 1 contains meeting minutes from 1921-199. Box 2 contains the general records for the organization.

This collection offers insight into the operations of the now defunct Kansas Center for Rural Initiatives in the School of Leadership Studies at Kansas State University from 1991–1999. The focus of the collection are the Rural Resource Directory and the program "Sustainable Manhattan." Documents for these two programs include: corrections, budgets, information sheets, correspondence, essays, newspaper clippings, and newsletters.

Materials include meeting minutes, 1949–1951; annual reports, 1950–1954, 1957, 1959–1960; newsletters (Bull Tales), 1953–1955, 1957–1958.

This collection cointains information about the Kansans for ERA organziation, their organizational issues, and organizational documents.

The boxes contain wonderful photographs that date from the early 1800s, a large amount of correspondence, personal papers, memorial records, scrapbook of her WWII work at Walter Reed Hospital, other scrapbooks, financial records, calendar appointment books, address files, post cards, journals, publications, information representing a variety of organizations; yearbooks; newspaper clippings, memorabilia, and some small objects. Some of the materials include items from other family members and her husband Garrett Olds. His military awards, medals, and some of his personal papers are included. There is no inventory for the collection.

The major subject areas include education; Kansas State University, Kansas State Alumni Assoc., other organizations, theatrical endeavors, family, military service, and more.

Biography
Ivy Ann Fuller was born in September 1894 in Barton County, Missouri. Her family moved to Manhattan, Kansas in 1902, settling on a farm in Ashland Township. They later moved into town, living in a home at 617 Poyntz. This became her lifelong family home until 1984.

Ivy graduated from Kansas State Agricultural College in 1913 earning a degree in Home Economics. Her college years were marked by her interest in the Panhellenic Council, journalism, where she was on the staff of the Kansas Aggie, forerunner of The Collegian; Delta Delta Delta Sorority, where she was charter member no. 6; and the performing arts. Throughout her life she was active in the sorority at the national level and in both Indianapolis, Indiana, and Manhattan, Kansas. She was also a devoted alumni of Kansas State University.

Ivy taught at Manhattan High School for 2 years. She then attended the Harvard school of physical education for two summers. While at Harvard, she was voted "prettiest girl on campus".

Ivy was a beautiful woman and won several movie queen contests. In 1917, she was crowned Movie Ball Queen in Kansas City. This led to a screen test in California. As a result, Ivy reportedly was cast in more than 20 silent films.

In late 1917 when the U.S. became involved in WWI, the Red Cross appealed to women to become trained as nurses to support the war effort. Ivy answered the call and attended nurses training at Vassar College. She had assignments at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, with the Surgeon General’s office, and later served as a physical therapist at Walter Reed Hospital. She left the Red Cross Service around June of 1920, toured out of Washington D.C. with a Chautauqua company, and became one of the founders of the Washington Theatre Production Company in 1920.
In 1920, census records show that she was living in Washington D.C. as a single woman employed in “goat service.” I am unclear as to what this is but I think it is a typo and should read government service. In 1921, Ivy accepted a position as director of the historical section of the American Legion, a newly created office with headquarters at Indianapolis. She was already a member of the legion because of her service as a nurse. Ivy was a member of the American Legion in Manhattan and was the only woman delegate from Kansas to the Legion’s national convention in 1921.

The 1930 census shows Ivy living in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was still single working as a teacher. It was there that she met Lt. Colonel Garrett W. Olds, a lawyer and a career Army officer, who had served in France in WWI. Ivy married Garrett Olds in August 1937 at St. Paul’s Church in Manhattan, Kansas. They lived in Indianapolis, Indiana where she continued to teach well into the 1940s.

Garrett Olds served in WWII and was a member of the Rainbow Division of the National Guard so he was probably required to have been gone some portion of 1938-1945, although I do not have a complete military record. It is likely the two were often separated. Ivy and Garrett were divorced in 1953. Mr. Olds retired from the army in February 1956 and died in 1964.

By 1950 Ivy had returned to Kansas to care for her ageing parents although she often visited her parents at the family home throughout her earlier years. The 1950 census also shows that Garrett Olds was not living with Ivy although according to neighbors he did visit. Ivy was no longer employed outside of the home.

In her later years, Ivy remained active. She was a life member of the Manhattan Civic Theatre. She supported the library, and both local and state historical societies as well as the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was an avid fan and supporter of the Kansas State rowing team. She also donated 187 items of clothing and accessories to the Historic Textile and Costume Collection in the KSU Department of Clothing,Textiles, and Interior Design and was involved in the local community until her death at Wharton Manor Nursing Home in May of 1990. She was 95 years old and is remembered as a beautiful woman, an educator, actress, nurse, and a devoted alumni and community member.

This collection primarily includes college documents and printed materials from Frances W. ImMasche, who graduated from Kansas State Agricultural College in 1929. Types of material include correspondence, programs, an agriculture handbook, invitations, cards, graduation programs, travel souvenirs, a scrapbook, and newspaper clippings. Correspondence from his time as a student primarily concerned the college and Lambda Gamma Delta, the honorary agricultural judging fraternity. Correspondence after college mainly includes letters from 1948 to 1954 from Carl (also spelled Karl) Hofer, a German abstract expressionist painter. ImMasche purchased four of his paintings and later donated them to Kansas State University, which is now in the collections of the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art.
Additional topics in the ImMasche papers include his military service in the United States Army and Air Force, as well as a scrapbook documenting his time as a college student (Scrapbook 34 in the archives' scrapbook collection). Correspondents included Leland Call, C. W. McCampbell, F. D. Farrell, Howard T. Hill, H. H. King, and J. H. Burt. Organizations represented include Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Livestock Judging Team, Alpha Zeta, Aggie Orpheum, YMCA, Student Council, and the 1929 Senior Class.
Finally, a photocopy of "German Expressionist Artist Karl Hofer" from Journal of Popular Culture (Volume 22, Issue 4, Spring 1989) by Jessica Reichman and E. R. Hagemann is included and describes Hofer, his paintings, and his exchanges with ImMasche.

Album of family photographs associated with sign and house painter Harvey Honnold of Olathe, Kansas. Photographs are the products of professional studios in Kansas, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee. Most are cabinet photographs, but some are tintypes, others in carte-de-visite format. One photograph is marked “H. Honnold taken on Cedar Creek west of Olathe somewhere north of Farland, HoughlandNeighborhood/Taken by Bert Honnold” Circa 1892.

Photograph of short course students and instructors at Kansas State Agricultural College in February 1917. One student was Maurice E. Dubbs, maternal grandfather of the donor. He lived in Ransom, Ness County, Kansas, and took blacksmithing and woodworking courses in Manhattan.

This collection consists of 58.7 hours of audio files and the accompanying transcripts of oral history interviews with custom harvesters. Those interviewed were all from the United States except for one participant from Saskatchewan, Canada. American participants were from Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, or North Dakota. The time period discussed in the interviews ranges from pre-World War II to 2010, with first-person accounts of harvest from the 1950s to 2010. All persons interviewed were retired or working custom harvesters, yet the project has a distinct group of interviews, 21.5 hours in length, exclusively with Mennonite custom harvesters. The interviews with Mennonite custom harvesters began when Mr. Schmidt recommended interviewing Waldo and Doris Froese of Inman, KS, one of the communities in the Mennonite settlement area of south-central Kansas. Other communities include Buhler and Moundridge. Dr. Holcomb then recruited others in this area for a separate project, which included interview questions pertaining specifically to Mennonite custom harvesters. Dr. Holcomb received grant funding from the Kansas Humanities Council for the Mennonite project, with sponsorship from the Mennonite Heritage & Agricultural Museum in Goessel, KS, which he used to pay for travel and transcription expenses. There is a subject index of the transcripts of the interviews with Mennonites.

Dr. Holcomb obtained 244 complimentary photos and news articles from participants to augment the interviews. Photos were either from the personal collections of those interviewed or were taken by the research team. There are two photo keys that provide captions for the photos. All interviews were conducted between 2008 and 2010. Interview questions were in the broad categories of family history and background, labor, origins of custom harvesting as a vocation, the work of custom harvesting, identity and lifestyle, equipment, places along the harvest route, changes in the communities where they harvest, crops harvested, weather, hardships, meals, lodging, relationships, and sense of place. Dr. Holcomb asked Mennonite participants additional questions, including details about their faith, the relationship between faith and their work, pacifism, and the alternative service conscientious objectors performed.

Materials include photographs of Edward Hodgson's (B.S., Agronomy, 1903) college friends at Kansas State Agricultural College: Thomas Warner Buell (1903), Walter Otis Gray (1904), Martin Roy Schuler (1906), Orrin Pomeroy Drake (1903), and Clark Stewart Cole (1904), as well as portraits of faculty and staff that include Julius Terrass Willard, Albert Dickens, Benjamin Franklin Eyer, Alice Ruff, Herbert F. Roberts, Albert M. Ten Eyck.
Other photos include formal family photos, an aerial photo of Manhattan during the 1903 flood, and several undated portraits of unidentified people.

The class notes of W. Harold Hilts comprise some of his coursework in veterinary medicine from 1917 to 1918. Classes include medicine, ophthalmology, therapeutics, and surgery, and each volume includes details about animal diseases and ailments. In addition to his handwritten notes, Hilts occasionally sketched body parts and other components of the subject matter.

The collection was created by three members of the Hill family --Randall C. Hill, Maurice L. Hill, and Opal B. Hill. The earliest document in the collection is a contract from 1929, and the manuscripts continue into the 1980s.
The bulk of Opal B. Hill's collection is her personal files that pertain to fabric and fabric history, and they are divided by subject. Also, the museum material is divided by subject for convenience and accessibility.
The first series in the collection pertains to Randall Hill and concerns his involvement with Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity at Kansas State. The first five folders deal with the early years, starting with the house contract in 1929. The theme of his collection centers around financial responsibilities and dues that former members owed to the house. The correspondence from 1932 to 1942 is mainly letters to former members reminding them of their obligations and dues.
The next series, that of Maurice Hill, is very similar to Randall Hill's papers. Maurice Hill was also involved with a fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa, although his collection is smaller. In this series, however, there are a variety of formats; photos of former members, a newsletter, two fraternity songbooks, letterheads and envelopes, a gavel, and a large metal ring. There is a folder with a few letters from Hill to former members pertaining to dues owed to the fraternity.
The third series, and the largest of the Hill Family Papers, is that of Opal Hill. The first folder pertains to a dinner recognition for Hill and her involvement with the establishment of a museum at Kansas State University and her contributions to Kansas State. Since she was an art instructor, the rest of her collection relates to fabrics and tapestries, including Peruvian, Irish, Persian, and Japanese. The collection contains mostly printed material on various subjects in the form of news articles, essays, pamphlets, and booklets.
The fourth series, part of Opal Hill's papers, deals extensively with the proposal of a museum at Kansas State University. There are six folders, 1) letters, 2) proposals, 3) information about a curator, 4) grant information, 5) printed material about other university museums, and 6) articles about the museum. Another person who was heavily involved with the museum and is frequently mentioned throughout all six folders is Patricia O'Brian, who was a friend and fellow professor at Kansas State University.
The donation includes a collection of photographs associated with Maurice Hill and members of Phi Sigma Kappa. They are of members who were involved with K-State athletics including football, baseball, and track. Also, there are some photos of the Phi Sigma Kappa members who participated in the military training program, and a few group photographs of the fraternity members. The photographs have been removed and filed in the Photograph Collection, Vertical File-People, and in flat storage boxes. An inventory can be found following the container list in this register.
Also, there are six artifacts associated with the Hills that have been stored with the artifacts collection in the University Archives. These artifacts include 1) Phi Sigma Kappa metal nameplate, 2) Phi Delta Tau metal nameplate, 3) metal ring, 4) Gavel and base with Phi Delta Tau insignia, 5) Metals and ribbons with Phi Delta Tau insignia and 6) Lighted sign with Phi Delta Tau in Greek letters.

The papers were assembled by Colonel Frank Caldwell Hershberger (1888-1965) over a long international career as a veterinary medicine specialist. The bulk of the collection consists of photographs and postcards gathered into three scrapbooks dating from 1908 to circa 1955. These albums cover various locations in Europe and Africa, as well as Diamond, Wyoming, and the Philippines. Additional loose photographs date from circa 1905 and document his time at the University of Missouri, Camp Marfa (Texas), Fort Monroe (Virginia), Fort Riley (Kansas), Fort Sill (Oklahoma), and Fort Mills (Corregidor, Philippines). Photographs include military officers, military polo teams, training cavalry horses, and the process of transporting horses via troopship. Augmenting the visual materials are articles, diplomatic papers, typescripts, some correspondence and a diary related to Hershberger's work for the Chinese government (1914-1918). One typescript details the history of the Port Veterinarian for the Port of Embarkation, New York, 1921-1945. The collection also includes the Legion of Merit medal, Legionnaire degree, which is given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements.

Records relating to the history of Cooperative Extension work in Sedgwick County Kansas and focusing particularly on the Prairie Gem unit of which Lou Herndon and her mother, Ruth Wilkins, were charter/lifetime members.

This collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, prints, postage stamps, journal and typescript articles pertaining to poultry breeder Leonora C. Hering (1898-1983). A member of the World’s Poultry Science Association and a former co-director of the American Partridge Plymouth Rock Club, Hering raised Houdans in Los Altos, California. Beginning as early as 1950, she sought to create a comprehensive poultry publication collection for Kansas State College by consulting with librarian William Behr and Department of Poultry Husbandry chairperson Loyal F. Payne. Her monograph collection – consisting of nearly 1000 titles – was cataloged for the Libraries as the “Leonora Hering Memorial Poultry Collection.”
Sporadic copies of journals interleaved with correspondence, newspaper clippings, and ephemeral materials form the basis of this archival collection. They document Hering’s research, the international community of breeders, book dealers, and agriculture librarians with whom she corresponded. They cover issues related to poultry, including, but not limited to, farming and production, diseases, specific breeds and breeding associations, recipes, legal restrictions, marketing, rationing, incubation technologies, vocalizations, and children’s folk stories and postage stamps featuring poultry.
Publications are international in scope, with representative examples in multiple languages (1849-1973). All of the children’s stories are in Russian. Correspondence from England, France, Germany, Holland, Japan, New Zealand, and Russia is included (1952-1980), and some of those letters contain photographic images and postcards. A secondary interest in poultry philately is represented in correspondence with and acquisitions from stamp dealers. Poultry advertisements, the earliest of which originates from postbellum Ohio, also feature prominently.

The Nora Hering Collection of taxidermy specimens and poultry art reside in Call Hall, which was home to the Department of Dairy Science and the Department of Poultry Science at the time of her gift.

The Nancy Hawkins collection consist of reports, letters, and statements authored by other people. One report was presented to the United Nations General Assembly in 1984 and contains draft guidelines for consumer protection, which was actually passed by the UN in the draft guidelines. One letter from Ambassador Alan L. Keyer, published in the New York Times on October 17, 1984, criticized consumer advocate Esther Peterson's criticism of the Reagan Administration. A letter from IOCU Director Lars Broch to Mr. Fareer, Minister of Pakistan offered technical comments on the draft guidelines and is accompanied by 3 pages of a letter to the United Kingdom government. Another letter from Broch to Esther Peterson addressed the guidelines. There is a partial statement about consumer issues from Robert Steeves, Deputy Director of the U.S. Office of Consumer Affairs, addressing the United States House of Representatives Subcommittee on Human Rights and International Organization of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. Several pages are missing from this statement including the first page. Notes made by Nancy Hawkins on the statement are illegible. There is a five-page statement by Ambassador Alan L. Keyes before the same subcommittee the same year, 1984, addressing consumer protection in general and the United Nation's role in formulating consumer guidelines.

Five boxes containing the papers of Bonnie Baringer Coryell Hatch, an educator, and homemaker in Kansas and Oklahoma between the early 1920s and 2010. Papers include letters, photographs, diaries, daybooks, ephemera, oral history cassette tapes, and other items.

Letters and related materials reflect life in Depression-era Kansas and Oklahoma, and touch on education, politics, farming practices and home-making activities undertaken by Bonnie, her husband, Allen, her three sons, her sister, Donis, and her parents, Sylvester and Minnie Baringer. Among the correspondence files is a large collection of Bonnie’s letters to her parents and smaller groups of letters between Bonnie and Allen, Bonnie and her second husband, Homer Hatch, and Sylvester and Minnie. Included in Sylvester’s correspondence, some dating to the late 1890s, are letters related to his activities as a Kansas Master Farmer and Kansas legislator from Coffey County from 1943-1951. Also in the collection is a printed copy and PDF file of "Letters from the Heartland," a compilation of Bonnie’s letters to her parents transcribed and edited by Janet L. Coryell.

The Jack Hartman Papers document Hartman's college coaching career from 1955-1986. They also include course material, correspondence regarding his retirement as head coach for Kansas State University and his nomination to the Hall of Fame in 1986, photographs, and artifacts. During Hartman's professional career he was head basketball coach at three schools including: Coffeyville (Kansas) Junior College (1955-1962), Southern Illinois University (1962-1970), and Kansas State University (1970-1986).
Oklahoma A & M, the first series, is comprised of material from courses in education and physical education that Hartman took while enrolled at the college.
The second series, Coffeyville Junior College (1955-1962), is divided into seven sub-series according to basketball season: 1) 1955-1956 contains a copy of the college magazine and awards; 2) 1956-1957 includes the college magazine from that year; 3) 1957-1958 consists of telegrams, tournament information, and newspaper clippings; 4) 1959-1960 contains newspaper clippings outlining highlights; 5) 1960-1961 includes tournament information; 6) 1961-1962 consists of tournament information and newspaper clippings, and 7) Miscellaneous includes scouting notes and a cutout of the Coffeyville Junior College mascot.
Southern Illinois University (1962-1970), the third series, is organized into eight sub-series: 1) 1962-1963 consists of newspaper clippings; 2) 1963-1964 contains newspaper clippings; 3) 1964-1965 includes telegrams, game statistics, programs, tournament information, and newspaper clippings; 4) 1967 National Invitational Tournament (NIT) consists of programs and newspaper clippings featuring the tournament highlights (Walt Frazier, who went on to star for the New York Knicks, was a member of the team); 5) 1967-1968 contains game statistics, programs, and newspaper clippings; 6) 1968-1969 includes game programs; 7) 1969-1970 consists of game statistics, programs, the Countrywide Sports magazine, and newspaper clippings; and 8) 1970 Transition from SIU to KSU includes newspaper clippings outlining Hartman's resignation from SIU and appointment as the new head basketball coach at Kansas State University.
The fourth series is Kansas State University (1970-1986). This series is separated into thirteen sub-series: 1) Clippings, undated, contains a number of newspaper clippings from unknown basketball seasons at Kansas State University; 2) 1970-1971 consists of telegrams, game statistics, programs, tournament information, and clippings; 3) KSU, 1971, Clippings includes newspaper clippings concerning Oklahoma University's basketball team; 4) 1971-1972 contains telegrams, game statistics, and newspaper clippings; 5) 1972-1973 consists of programs and newspaper clippings; 6) 1973-1974 contains game statistics, programs, and media guides, and newspaper clippings; 7) 1974-1975 includes programs and newspaper clippings; 8) 1975-1976 contains programs and newspaper clippings; 9) 1976-1977 consists of a photograph; 10) 1977-1978 includes newspaper clippings; 11) 1979-1980 contains college magazine and newspaper clippings; 12) 1984-1985 consists of newspaper clippings; and 13) 1985-1986 includes programs and newspaper clippings.
The series Correspondence (1986) is organized into two sub-series. The first sub-series is entitled Retirement and contains a number of letters regarding Hartman's retirement as the head coach for the men's basketball team at Kansas State University. It includes letters from Governor John Carlin (Kansas) and coaches Lou Henson, Tom Penders, "Wimp" Sanderson, and others. The second sub-series relates to Hartman's nomination to the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1986 and contains letters of support from Henry Iba, DeLoss Dodds, Dean Smith, and others.
The Photographs series is divided into three sub-series: 1) Coffeyville Junior College consists of photographs from Hartman's time as head coach at Coffeyville; 2) Southern Illinois University includes Southern Illinois University's basketball team photographs, individual player photographs, a number of photographs of Hartman during his tenure as head coach, and a photograph from the National Invitation Tournament in 1967; and 3) Kansas State University contains a photograph of Hartman during his years as head coach at Kansas State University.
Artifacts comprise the last series and include a "Coach of the Year Award" trophy from the National Association of Basketball Coaches for the 1980-1981 season, and two plaques awarded to Hartman. The first plaque was given to him by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association (KBCA) in honor of his induction into the KBCA Hall of Fame in 1989. The second plaque was presented by Kansas State University honoring Hartman as the winningest coach in Kansas State University basketball history, 1970-1986.

The collection documents the family, travels, education, and art practice of Kansas State Agricultural College graduate and teacher Vida Agnes Harris (March 29, 1893-May 25, 1985) from 1915-1970. Correspondence includes a letter Harris wrote while working as a domestic science instructor at the American Missionary Society's Tillotson College in Austin, Texas (1915) and letters received from Margaret Justin, Dean of Home Economics (1923-1954). Three diaries record Harris' international trips: Europe (1930); Mexico (1940) and India (1951). Sketches, block prints, paintings, and handmade greeting cards represent her art and design techniques. One folder contains photocopied, handwritten, and typed recipes, a number of them credited to known associates.
Scant photographs and a notebook (1916-1918) pertain to her father, Samuel Murrell Harris (1858-1944), who operated the Hillside Dairy in Manhattan, Kansas. The photographs were taken during the early 1940s, and used by Ruth Linquist in her 1946 publication, Using and Sharing Our Hours (Chapel Hill, N.C.). Samuel M. Harris is shown at the site of his old barn, located at 700 Harris Avenue. Kansas State's Memorial Stadium, Anderson and Seaton Halls, and power plant may be seen in the distance.

The William B. Hanger Papers document the military career of Hanger from 1929-1955. They also include information about his business career and family during that time as well as after his death in 1955 when information was added to the collection by the family spanning the years 1955-2001. Hanger actively served in the U.S. Marines for almost 20 years, 1929-1948. After his enlistment ended in 1948, he served as a sergeant in charge of the Marine Corps recruiting station. In 1951, Hanger began working as a sales representative for Spe-De-Way Company, a floor wax company that sold supplies to a Pittsburgh company, in Springfield, Missouri where he worked until his death in 1955.

The first series, U.S. Marines (1929-1955), is divided into eight subseries: 1) Diaries, consisting of seven diaries written by Hanger from 1931-1934; 1942 while stationed at Pearl Harbor, Oahu (1933), and Guadalcanal (1942). These diaries contain detailed descriptions of Hanger’s military life during that time; 2) Military Service contains records relating to Hanger’s service in the Marines. Organized chronologically, these papers include correspondence, leave requests, financial documents, enlistment and service records, health reports, and orders and itineraries; 3) Military Service Photocopies include a number of photocopied military records obtained by the family regarding Hanger’s time in the military; 4) Literary Works contains a paper entitled “Six Months After Pearl Harbor” that Hanger wrote in 1942; 5) Certificates consists of various certificates that were presented to Hanger during his military career; 6) Identification Cards includes Hanger’s military ID cards; 7) Ration Book consists of a military ration book issued to Willa Jean Hanger; and 8) Printed Material contains newspaper clippings concerning Hanger, a memory book from 1945, and two military periodicals.

Personal (1934-2001) contains ten subseries: 1) Correspondence contains letters, invitations, and greeting cards from family members and others; 2) Financial Documents consists of cancelled checks, tax statements, and bank receipts; 3) Records includes a number of important family documents and records including death certificates, marriage licenses, social security information, insurance papers, and health records; 4) Wedding Programs/Napkins contains programs and a napkin from a wedding in 1976; 5) Organization and Business Membership and Identification Cards consists of Hanger’s membership and organization cards; 6) Organizations-National Sojourners includes a constitution written by the National Sojourners; 7) Speech contains a speech written by Hanger regarding his service in the Marines; 8) Family History Notes includes several handwritten notes regarding the history of the Hanger family; 9) Funeral Related Items contains a program, guest book, and sympathy cards from Hanger’s funeral in 1955; and 10) Printed Material consists of basketball programs, college brochures, and newspaper clippings concerning the Hanger family.

The Business Series consists of six sub-series. The first is Correspondence, which contains letters pertaining to Hanger’s business career in Springfield, Missouri. Financial Documents, the second subseries, contains information regarding yearly expenses and taxes. The third series, Merit System, includes ratings and facts about the state of Missouri’s system. The fourth is the Civil Service Commission which includes notices of ratings for Hanger’s business from the Service Commission. Business Cards is the fifth subseries. The final series, Printed Material, contains company information and sales pamphlets, poultry informational pamphlets, and ‘do it yourself guides.

The Photographs series contains a number of U.S. Marine photographs of Hanger and personal photographs of the Hanger family including portraits of his wife and children. It also includes a number of negatives, a photo album/scrapbook from 1933 that includes Marine photographs, newspaper clippings, ticket stubs, and programs; a photo album of pictures from his time in San Diego, Guam, and Honolulu while in the Marines from 1930-1931; and two class photographs from 1924 and 1927.

The final series, Memorabilia, consist of a confederate note and coin and foreign coins. A number of military-related items including American Legion hats, ration book holders, a USMC Honorable Discharge Certificate Holder, USMC nameplate, and a World War II medal earned by Hanger while in the Marines are also included in the collection.

The Haldeman-Julius Collection documents the business and personal life of Emanuel Haldeman-Julius, especially through the biographical information compiled by his second wife, Sue. Along with Emanuel, there is considerable information about Marcet (Emanuel's first wife) and her family, including her aunt Jane Addams (1931 Nobel Peace Prize winner), as well as several close friends and relatives. There is little correspondence in the collection, instead, the majority of the material consists of biographical information that Sue Haldeman-Julius created for a biography she was writing about Emanuel which included drafts of chapters.
Newspaper clippings of events that took place, many after Emanuel's death in the remembrance of him, as well as clippings on people he knew, are also included. Other contents of interest include the short stories and articles that were written by Emanuel, Marcet, or both. Several of the articles indicate that they were written for the Appeal to Reason, a socialist newsletter that Emanuel was editor and owner of.
The collection consists of five series: Contains essays and short stories written by Emanuel, Marcet, or were written by both of them together. There are 46 essays and short stories in this series. Contains family documents from family members on both the Haldeman and the Julius side. This series also includes newspaper clippings regarding social events, friends of the Haldeman-Julius', and also clippings that interested one of Emanuel's wives (such as health). Contains the biographical information compiled and typewritten by his second wife, Sue, for a biography she was writing; includes drafts on various topics and events.
Contains printed material that was published in Emanuel's personal magazine E. H-J. Magazine and other literary works by different authors. Contains photographs and art including two family photographs of the Addams family; one photograph of Jane Addams' casket being carried; one photograph of Emanuel; one-color print o the Haldeman-Julius home in Girard, KS (1942), and: an original pencil drawing of Abraham Walkowitz by Sue Haldeman-Julius; The Morse Department of Special Collections houses a comprehensive run of Haldeman-Julius publications ("Little Blue Books") and Emanuel's two autobiographies, My First 25 Years and My Second 25 Years.

These records document the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance—often shortened to Great Plains IDEA—a collaboration of about twenty universities in the Plains region. Based out of Kansas State University, the group provides fully online graduate programs across several universities. Materials range from 1994 to 2015 and include meeting minutes, itineraries, board member information, education initiatives, and annual meeting information.

Additionally, there are web archives from 2001 to 2024. The current site, www.idea.edu, has been crawled since September 2024, and the previous site, www.gpidea.org, was saved by the Wayback Machine 398 times between September 25, 2001, and July 21, 2024. This collection documents the academic career of Don L. Good, noted livestock judge and head of the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry at Kansas State University (1966–1987). A wide range of materials are include from lantern slides to publications to journals documenting trips abroad, and date from 1923 to 2008. The collection has been divided into series based on material types.
The Artifact series includes certificates, awards, banners, business cards, and plaques.
The Audio-Visual series consists primarily of photographs and negatives documenting department activities (1924-1988), as well as photo albums and scrapbooks. Some of the activities highlighted are livestock shows and judging teams, Weber Hall, the U. S. Beef Symposium, and the 1950 International Team. Glass negatives and lantern slides have been relocated to allow for better preservation of fragile materials.
The Block and Bridle series (1940-2006) documents the student organization's activities and events such as their annual banquet and involvement in Little American Royal. Block and Bridle yearbooks from other universities are also included.
The Conference series (1959-2003) records Dr. Good's involvement in various professional activities such as contests, shows, sales, expos, state and county fairs, conventions, and forums. Some of the events included are Beef Cattle Efficiency Forum, 1984; Angus Forum: Century of Angus in the U.S.A., 1973; Hereford Association meeting, 1959; Beef Empire Live & Carcass Show, 1973; International Cattlemen's Expo, 1969, and Nebraska State Fair, 1980 and 1982.
The correspondence series (1954-1991) consists of fourteen items including individual correspondence and letters concerning tenure, academic credentials, the 17th Stockman's Dinner, and departmental print orders.
The International Meat and Livestock Program (IMLP) (1989-2001) consists of papers contributed by various countries, from Africa to Ukraine. Animal health, veterinary practices, beef production, meat processing, feed processing, herd management, genetics, and molecular biology are some of the topics covered.
The International Trips series covers travel to Nigeria, 1968-1969, Turkey, 1971, and England & Scotland, 1971.
The Judging series (1932-2003) focuses primarily on the livestock (1948-2003) and dairy (1969-1987) judging teams. Other topics include the Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest, the wool team, American Royal, Kansas State Fair, and judging in general.
The Livestock and Meat Industry Council (LMIC) (1967-2001) contains organizational information including Articles of Incorporation, Board meetings, correspondence, minutes, agendas, memos, and financial records.
Printed material (1885-2006) contains university and departmental publications, as well as books and articles that reflect Dr. Good's professional interests. Included with this series are departmental policies and memos, faculty meeting minutes, and expansion plans. The two titles with the largest number of issues are the College of Agriculture Teaching Newsletter and Monday Morning Updates.
The Public Speaking series (1950-1998) contains speeches and public talks given at a variety of events from the Americal Royal to the Z-Bar Ranch, taking place across Kansas and various locations around the country.
The Saddle and Sirloin series (1970-2004) contains recommendations and biographies.
The Yearly Planners series (1968-1987) contains planners and/or calendars.
The Restricted series contains one box of Patton Farm records, undated.

This collection consists of five postcards and twenty-two letters, some including additional documentation, sent in response to Elizabeth B. Goldsmith, Ph.D., author inquiry in the New York Times Book Review section on August 19, 1990 seeking books on the history of home economics. All correspondence is dated 1990-1991.

This collection includes approximately 120 items, housed in one document box, relating to Samuel Fremont Goheen’s career as mayor of Manhattan, Kansas.
Series 1 consists of correspondence dating from 1915-1918, including letters to and from Goheen concerning Manhattan city government and greeting cards.
Series 2 consists of business documents, 1914-1917, including hand-written drafts of proclamations, heath and sanitation recommendations, and tax levies are within this series.
Series 3, financial documents, consists of one ledger titled "Day Book" with entries dating 1912-1919. It contains entries concerning the sale of groceries, coal, and real estate property.
Series 4, literary productions, contains four pieces of handwritten poems, a manuscript entitled "A Quaker Wedding," and an ink drawing.
Series 5, the largest portion of the collection, is comprised of printed material with items dating from 1912-1933, including newspaper clippings about World War I, prohibition, the jitney business, community sanitary precautions, and city ordinances, as well as pamphlets and single pages from pamphlets.
Note: The original state of the Samuel Fremont Goheen papers has made it difficult to accurately date and locate the source of many of the items. Dates have been drawn from item content or subject matter.

The Global Campus Records, formally known as Division of Continuing Education, consists of material from 1951 to 2007. The material found in this collection partly pertains to the credit courses offered through Global Campus from 1975 to 2002. It contains files from courses offered during the semester and intersession (winter, spring, summer) periods. Some of the colleges that are highlighted in the Global Campus Records include the College of Arts & Sciences, College of Education, and College of Engineering; the bulk of these files are related to the College of Arts & Sciences. These files are typically composed of resources and manuals for distance and online courses, enrollment statistics, course information packets, photographs, videotapes, credit course promotional material, course evaluations, course financing, reports and reviews related to credit courses, and correspondence related to credit courses.

Some of the material found in this collection pertains to Conference and Non- Credit Programs (CNCP) and opportunities provided across campus. Files possess materials related to conference and program agendas, enrollment and attendee lists, budget and financial information, speaker presentations, brochures and pamphlets, correspondence related to conferences and programs, and promotional materials. Along with CNCP there are also conference files incorporated into this collection. There are also brochures and marketing material for the conferences, final budgets, attendance reports, and notes from the conferences that occurred from 1989-2007.

The bulk of the material in this collection is contained in the Dean’s Office and Administrative series. These contain files taken from the office of the Dean of Global Campus or related offices. These also contain files from organizations such as Western Kansas Community Services Consortium (WKCSC), National University Degree Consortium (NUDC) along with files from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and National University Continuing Education Association (NUCEA).

The Administrative series specifically contains some files from the office of David Stewart, on non-traditional studies. Along with those files it contains things from the Kansas Board of Regents, reading files, meeting minutes and notes, and final budgeting reports.

The Dean’s office series contains files from the offices of Elizabeth Unger and Robert Kruh, both previous Deans of Global Campus. There are also some files pertaining to Army education through Fort Riley. Lastly, files and correspondence on academic outreach and how to go about campus improvements.

These materials comprise the files of Roman J. Verhaalen, who served as department head or acting head of continuing education from 1956 to 1964. The materials cover from 1951 to 1964 and topics include department activities and records, Abilene-Chapman college experiment, Advisory Council for General Extension, Continental Classroom movement, Faculty Senate activities, graduate and home study programs, instructional records, television and radio class publicity, and the 50th anniversary of the department.

K-State ephemera of Arthur H. Gilles, Class of 1914

After graduating from Kansas State Agricultural College in 1914, Gilles entered World War I in 1918. This collection spans the years 197 to 1919 and consists of five boxes.

Gavitt Medical Co. Records were donated to the University Archives at Kansas State University by Professor Charles Gardner Shaw in 1971. This collection is identified as accession number PC 1988.07.
This collection consists of correspondence documenting sales of the Gavitt System Regulator. The majority of the correspondence pertains to purchasing the product, some detailing how they first received the product and giving glowing testimonials of how it helped them: "It has cured me of a bad case of Catarrh and heart disease, and is commencing to give me strength." Other letters are inquiries about becoming agents for the company, explaining that either the correspondent is unaware of anyone selling their product in the area, or that the current agent is unable to continue to provide adequate service for the area.
Probably the most significant correspondence in the collection is the reports which the agents sent to the company's office in Topeka documenting the sales of the product. Many of these reports were penned on the back of the correspondence from the company, providing valuable insight into the times. The company letters include arguments for convincing the reluctant buyer to purchase their product: "Many say they employ a family physician after they get sick. The graveyards are full of people who had family physicians called after they got sick. The time to take medicine is when the disease first makes its appearance and the only way to take it is to have it in the house handy at all times." The company also provides advice on marketing, suggesting that agents target parents with sons in the military: "...we have not heard of a single case where the soldiers have had Malaria, Typhoid or Yellow fever where they had a box of our System Regulator sent to them."
Interspersed throughout the collection are personal letters from the Shore family and friends. These letters document the events in the lives of the family and the communities of Alma, Clay Center, Emporia and White City, Kansas, including births, deaths, and assorted gossip.
Of particular note is a letter from Jesse L. Shore to Kansas Secretary of State, George Clark, pointing out a error in the Session Laws of 1901, Chapter 420, and requesting that Mr. Clark check the actual bill to make sure it is correct. Mr. Clark's reply confirms that the error is in the bill as well and that the bill is invalid until the legislature meets again and can correct it.

The collection documents the personal and professional activities of Marlin Fitzwater. He served as Assistant to the President for Press Relations under Reagan, and Press Secretary under George H.W. Bush. The bulk of the records in this collection were produced and/or collected by Fitzwater during his years in the White House and in the following years as a lecturer and author. Items include memos, speeches, interviews, correspondence schedules, reports, and other documents. Items of note include correspondence to and from Presidents Reagan and Bush, newswires, briefings, records documenting U.S. and Soviet relations, economic summits, and other foreign and domestic policy decisions made during the terms of Reagan and Bush, Gulf War of 1990-1991. Other items of note in the collection include World War II ration cards belonging of Marlin Fitzwater parents, speeches delivered by Marlin Fitzwater after he left the White House, manuscripts and research materials related to his books, photo albums and numerous photographs of the White House period, posters, and numerous memorabilia items.

The Marjorie L. Honstead Feldhausen Papers (1942-1946/ 1920-2006) contain personal correspondence, service records, printed material, photographs, and a scrapbook of memorabilia dealing with her service in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.
The Correspondence series contains letters written by Marjorie Feldhausen to her parents, Fred C. and Nellie Honstead spanning from August 5, 1943, to August 30, 1945. These letters chronicle her service stationed at the following locations: 1.) Schick General Hospital, Clinton, Iowa; 2.) 316th Station Hospital, Camp Stover, Newton Abbot, England; 3.) 316th Holding Hospital, Cowglen Hospital, Glasgow, Scotland; 4.) Staging Area, Marseille, France; and 5.) Boston, after traveling from Europe aboard the U.S. Army Transport Fredrick Lykes. While many of the details of her service are absent due to censorship bans, the letters provide a thorough account of her daily experiences, her travels, life at the hospital, social gatherings, and reflection on major events of the war. This series is contained in 2 flat document boxes within 3-ring binders.
The Service Records series (1942-1946) contains Feldhausen’s official documents from the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, consisting of 9 folders of material, including her appointment, service records, and Certificate of Service.
Printed Material (1943-1946) includes newsletters, magazines, annuals, calendars, and booklets, consisting of 9 folders of material housed in one document box.
Financial Documents and Foreign Currency (1943-1944) contains bank statements from the National Bank of Topeka, canceled checks, and an assortment of European bills and coins. Feldhausen’s parents, Fred C. and Nellie Honstead were given power of attorney over her affairs and managed her financial accounts while she was abroad.
Housed in one flat box for oversized documents, the Photographs series (1943-1945) is comprised of a photo album, containing photos of the station hospitals, nurses’ quarters, fellow nurses, servicemen, and travels. The Scrapbook series is housed in one flat oversized document box and contains memorabilia collected from Feldhausen’s service in Iowa, England, Scotland, France, and aboard the U.S. Army Transport Fredrick Lykes.

The Union Equity series includes Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws, correspondence, export records, financial and audit records, meeting minutes, meeting agendas, speeches, publicity materials, printed material, audiovisual materials, and photographs.
Women's Cooperative Guild includes annual reports, correspondence, financial records, member records, meeting minutes, newsletters, photographs, scrapbooks, yearbooks, and artifacts.
The Farmland Series is made up of corporation records, correspondence, financial records, historical records, photographs, negatives, slides, printed material, and scrapbooks.
Cooperative Refinery Association (CRA) series includes information pertaining to the Coffeyville and Phillipsburg, Kansas refineries, CRA meeting minute books (1939-1981), and CRA of Peru, Inc.
Consumers Cooperative Association (CCA) series includes the organization's Administrative Orders, Articles of Incorporation, correspondence, conferences, farm program and problems, history of the organization, lists of Board of Directors, minutes, policies, list of personnel, speeches by
Cooperative Farm Chemical Association (CFCA) series includes Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws, annual stockholders meetings and minutes, correspondence, newspaper clippings, revolving fund certificates (1959-1985), and photographs and printed material of the dedication of the Lawrence Nitrogen Plant, Lawrence, Kansas (1951-1954).
Far-Mar-Co series includes correspondence to the Board of Directors (1976-1985), news releases, newspaper clippings, and the organization meeting of the incorporators of Far-Mar-Co/Farmland Acquisition Corporation (1976-1980).
Union Oil Company series includes the Certificate of Incorporation, Articles of Agreement, Affidavit of Dissolution of Cowden Oil Company, correspondence, minutes, magazines and newspaper publicity and advertising, radio talks, and speeches, and three (3) scrapbooks with photographs.
The Agricultural Hall of Fame series contains the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws (1958-1961), newspaper clippings (1980-1990), visitors guides (1960-1981), photographs, and printed materials.
The Farmland Artifacts series contains awards, a keychain, a coffee cup, and deck of cards. The series also includes one (1) ceremonial shovel dated December 1, 1959, a Recognition Board dated June 1, 1968-March 1969, and a silver metal sign dated 1956. It also includes a Bell & Howell Model 1550B 16mm film projector.
Farmland Oversize series includes advertising posters, newspaper clippings, bound advertising pages, photographs, calendars, two (2) scrapbooks, Ken Burdette Sketches, a drawing of Farmland Foods Plant, banners, blueprints, and watercolor paintings.
The Audio-Visual Materials series includes 16mm films, CDs, cassette tapes, filmstrips, LPs, and VHS tapes.
There are nineteen shelves of printed material that are bound volumes contained are The Daily Scoop, Inside Farmland, Farmland Circles, Co-Op News Digest, Leadership, Bulletin, Teammates, The Cooperative Farmer, Co-Op Reporter, The Cooperative Consumer, Insider, Managers Newsletter, Advantage, The Plant Connection, Farmland Supervisor, and Home-Maker. Note The Cooperative Consumer name changed to Farmland in September 1966 and Farmland changed to Farmland News in 1971.
