Nancy Hawkins papers, 1984

Abstract Or Scope

The Nancy Hawkins collection consist of reports, letters, and statements authored by other people. One report was presented to the United Nations General Assembly in 1984 and contains draft guidelines for consumer protection, which was actually passed by the UN in the draft guidelines. One letter from Ambassador Alan L. Keyer, published in the New York Times on October 17, 1984, criticized consumer advocate Esther Peterson's criticism of the Reagan Administration. A letter from IOCU Director Lars Broch to Mr. Fareer, Minister of Pakistan offered technical comments on the draft guidelines and is accompanied by 3 pages of a letter to the United Kingdom government. Another letter from Broch to Esther Peterson addressed the guidelines. There is a partial statement about consumer issues from Robert Steeves, Deputy Director of the U.S. Office of Consumer Affairs, addressing the United States House of Representatives Subcommittee on Human Rights and International Organization of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. Several pages are missing from this statement including the first page. Notes made by Nancy Hawkins on the statement are illegible. There is a five-page statement by Ambassador Alan L. Keyes before the same subcommittee the same year, 1984, addressing consumer protection in general and the United Nation's role in formulating consumer guidelines.

Abstract Or Scope

These thirty-four (34) volumes of letterpress copybooks document presidential and college administration correspondence at Kansas State Agricultural College, now Kansas State University, between 1871 and 1901. Only one volume is incoming correspondence and the remaining volumes are copies of outgoing correspondence. The following is a list of the volumes with the order of each line thus: current volume number and type of correspondence, description and date(s), and old volume number.

Abstract Or Scope

The Phi Beta Kappa, Beta of Kansas chapter, records include materials documenting the local and national organizations. The local chapter began in 1974, and records pre-dating that year include national records such as constitutions, by-laws, newsletters and other publications, a history, manuals, and letterhead.
The local Beta of Kansas chapter includes organizational operating records such as minutes, officer records, financial records, membership rolls, and chapter correspondence. These local records also include society honors records such as initiation rites, speeches, and honors banquets.
A letter of note is one from Aldous Huxley responding to a request for him to speak.

Abstract Or Scope

This collection contains material ranging from 1915 to 1999 from the Kansas State University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi and was aquired in two different accessions. Included are chapter minutes, membership records, financial reports, banquet programs, various correspondence, awards, original charter, and published materials.
The first accession, U1990.03, includes the following: Secretary records of membership (1916-1988) organized alphabetically and then chronologically, initiation records (1979-1987), handbooks and minutes (1930s-1980s)
The second accession, U2014.51, includes the following: Schriver, Edward. In Pursuit of Excellence: The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, 1987-1971. Orono, Maine: Phi Kappa Phi. 1971. Reva Helen Lyne Russell papers, 1910–2000

Abstract Or Scope

This collection is primarily made up of records, programs, and correspondence between Reva Helen Lyne and various athletic programs and schools across Kansas during her involvement with Kansas State Women's Athletic Association (KSWAA) at Kansas State Agricultural College between 1923 and 1928. These letters mainly discuss plans for Central Sectional KSWAA conferences, information about selecting and receiving a shield for the Association, and other notes from WAA meetings about specific sports and student athletic records (track and field, basketball, etc.). Photographs from her childhood, college years, and wedding to Paul Russell are also included, as well as a diary from 1925 and her funeral service program from 2000.

Royal Purple March sheet music, 1911

Abstract Or Scope

The Class of 1911 used the Royal Purple March as a fundraiser for their senior arch at Kansas State Agricultural College. George August Westphalinger, a retired chief musician for the United States Army who led the K-State College Band in 1909-1910 and 1910-1911, wrote the piece in 1911. More details are available in issues of The Kansas Industrialist on May 13 and June 17, 1911.
