General note:

Manuscript collection: William Robert Smith letters (Dary purchase). Smith (1963-1924) was a lawyer, judge, and U.S. congressman from Texas. He served as judge of the 32nd Judicial District of Texas, 1897-1903. He was elected to the U.S. Congress as a Democrat and served 1903-1916 after which President Woodrow Wilson appointed him the U.S. district judge for the Western District of Texas.
