Oct 30. Letter to Father from Springfield. Plan to attack changed, letter describes position of brigades and regiments (mentions 83rd and 84th brigades and 165th and 166th regiments); he and Zip sent out to find new headquarters; describes difficulty finding it and the location (Cote de Chatillon) and conditions; stayed about 10 days with shelling. HQ told them to keep patrolling and how sickness and shelling weakened them; their artillery pulled back to get ready for big push over Nov. 4. Talks about his current job, going to Dartmouth/Colgate game with “Harry” and asks if his suitcase ever arrived from Hoboken.
